Chemicals and Hazardous Waste
Chemicals used in ETA lab areas must be properly identified, handled, and stored. Chemical storage requirements can be found in PUB-3000 Chapter 45, “Chemical Hygiene and Safety Plan”: Chemical Hygiene and Safety Plan.
Hazardous wastes are chemicals, debris, and samples that are no longer needed and are either flammable, corrosive, toxic, or reactive. These are collected in containers, labeled as "hazardous waste" and stored in a Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) until requisitioned for pick-up and disposal. Hazardous waste disposal requirements can be found in PUB-3000 Chapter 20, "Waste Management": Waste Management Procedures.
This section also includes additional information regarding the handling of samples, empty containers, batteries, and time sensitive chemicals.
